Watawala Falls is situated in Nivithigala in the Ratnapura district. It is 40 meters high and formed by three different streams. Each of these streams begins at the Rambukkannde Mountain of the Uda Karavita Forest Reserve. The area surrounding the waterfalls is full of wildlife, many medicinal plants and herbs.
Getting to Watawala Falls
From Ella take the Colombo – Batticaloa Highway and go past Bandarawela, Haputale and Belihuloya until Nivithigala.
Getting to the upper part of Watawala Falls
Travel along the Janapadaya Road from the 14th milepost on the Nivithigala – Karawita Road. Travel about 2-3 km on this road to reach the point where you need to walk to the upper part of Watawala Falls.
Getting to lower part of Watawala Falls
Travel up to Karawita and take the road towards Paranawaththa Junction. Take the left turn from this junction and travel about 100 meters in this road until you find a footpath to your right to reach the lower part of Watawala Falls.
