Udayagiri Raja Maha Viharaya is an ancient Buddhist temple that is situated in the village of Udayagiri in Ampara district. The temple has a history of over 1000 years while archaeologists assume that it was established during the pre-Christian era. An inscription at the temple states that it has been exempted from taxes by two generals of King Udaya I. The premises of Udayagiri Raja Maha Viharaya is also assumed to have been the battle ground between Parakramabahu I and Queen Sugaladevi who ruled this region back in the day.

From Ampara travel along the Ampara – Uhana – Maha Oya Highway passing uhana up to the village of Udayagiri to reach the Udayagiri Raja Maha Viharaya.
