Udawalawe Dam is a large irrigation dam which is situated in Udawalawe. The dam is used for hydroelectric power generation, powering three 2 MW units. It consists of an embankment section and a gravity section which brings the total length of the dam to approximately 3.9 km. The reservoir created from this dam measures approximately 8.6 km in total length.

Getting to Udawalawe Dam

From Belihuloya travel along the Colombo – Batticaloa Highway and then along the Pelmadulla – Embilipitiya Highway passing Aluthnuwara, Balangoda and Pallebedda up to Udawalawe to reach the Udawalawe Dam.
