Star Fort is a fort situated in Matara. Constructed in 1765 by the Dutch, it is approximately 350 m from the gate to the Matara fort. It was originally named “Redoute Van Eck” by the Dutch. This defence fort built from granite stone and corals in order to protect the main fort of Matara from attacks originating from the Nilwala River. It is built to a unique shape of a six pointed star which is why it is called “Star Fort”.

Getting to Star Fort – Matara

From Mirissa travel along the Matara Road up to Matara and turn to Sri Dharmarathna Mawatha to reach the Star Fort.
