Ridi Viharaya is an ancient Buddhist temple situated in Ridigama in the Matale district. This temple is also known as “Silver Temple” and is said to belong to 2nd-century BC. It was built during the reign of King Dutugamunu of Anuradhapura and is considered to be the place where the silver ore, which provided silver to complete one of the largest stupas in Sri Lanka; Ruwanwelisaya, was discovered.
Getting to Ridi Viharaya
From Matale travel along the Kandy Road passing Thotagamuwa up to Palapathwela. From there travel along the Kurunegala Road passing Yatawatta and Dodangaslanda up to Ridigama to reach the Ridi Viharaya situated in Ridi Vihara Road.
