Rekawa Lagoon is a lagoon situated in the coastal ring in in the Hambantota district. It is a small and shallow lagoon with a surface area of 2.4 square km and an average depth of 1.4 m. The widest point of the lagoon is approximately 2.5 km. Rekawa Lagoon is surrounded by mangroves while being rich in biodiversity with a variety of fish and birds. The lagoon is especially rich in shrimps and is one of the main livelihoods of the villagers in the surrounding area.
