Distance from Anuradhapura – 17.8 km (29 minutes)

Rajagiri Lena (Rajagiri Caves) is situated in Mihintale, Anuradhapura. These rock caves have been occupied by various monks of great wisdom throughout time. The cave appears to have housed a Buddhist shrine in the early days. A flight of stairs cut into rock, leads to the top of the summit of Rajagiri Kanda where the Rajagiri caves lie. Mihintale bears importance as the birth place of Buddhism in the country in the history of Sri Lanka.

Getting to Rajagiri Lena

From Anuradhapura travel along the Puttalam – Anuradhapura – Trincomalee Highway and turn to Mahinda Rajapaksha Mawatha to reach the Rajagiri Lena which is situated along Kaludiya Pokuna Road in Mihintale.
