Naipena Viharaya is ancient historic temple situated in Polonnaruwa. It is also known as Vishnu Devala No.4 and is a place of worship for Lord Vishnu in Hinduism. This temple has been built by bricks as opposed to the other devalas in the area. However, only the stone pillars of the structure remain today. It is believed that a carving of cobra with seven heads has made this place known as the “Naipena Viharaya”. Although the temple is dedicated for Lord Vishnu, no image of Lord Vishnu has been found here.
