Distance from Ella – 100.3 km (2 hours 45 minutes)

Marakkala Ella falls are situated in the Ratnapura district. It stands at a height of 8 meters and is also called “Kaluwala Ella”. The waterfall has got its name because a youth of Marakkala (Moor) nationality came to fish in the pool and drowned because of his foolishness. According to villagers a whirlpool named “Kaluwala” continues to drown people up to this day.
