Manelwatta Temple is a Buddhist temple situated in Kelaniya. It is a modern temple constructed in a 16 ha land in a calm and relaxing environment in close proximity to the city of Colombo. It bears great resemblance to a Mahayana Temple from an East Asian Country. The temple houses the Nagananda International Buddhist University which was modeled after the ancient Buddhist university of Nalanda in India. The land of the Manelwatta Temple was offered to the Budhdha Sasana in by the Late Sri Lankan president Mr. J. R. Jayawadena in the year 1962.
