Lankathilaka Viharaya is an ancient Buddhist temple situated in Polonnaruwa. It is one of the most emblematic structures of the Polonnaruwa era. Built by King Parakramabahu the Great, the temple has two walls each with a thickness of 4 m & height of 17 m. These two walls form a narrow aisle which leads to a very impressive, though now sadly headless Buddha statue standing at a height of over 14 m. The entrances of the viharaya are guarded by statues similar to those found in vatadages and the interior walls of the temple are painted with murals.
