Distance from Polonnaruwa – 7.3 km (14 minutes)

Kumara Pokuna (Prince Pond) is a pond situated close to the royal palace complex in Polonnaruwa. Its exact location is next to the Council Chamber of King Parakramabahu the Great and is believed to have been built by the King himself. It is believed to be the pond named “Sila Pokkharani” stated in the Mahavamsa and is square shaped. Kumara Pokuna is made out of stone slabs and there are remains of changing rooms on the side of the pond.

Getting to Kumara Pokuna

From Polonnaruwa travel along the Maradankadawala-Habarana-Thirukkondaiadimadu Highway until the ancient inner town of Polonnaruwa to reach the Kumara Pokuna which is situated next to the Council Chamber of King Parakramabahu the Great.
