Kiri Ella is a waterfall which is situated in the Ratnapura district. It stands at a height of 18 m with a width of 4 m. Kiri Ella waterfall cascades down from the Kabaragala Mountain and is also known as “Kabaragala Ella”. The waterfall gets its name because, when viewed from a distance, its white water is said to resemble milk. According to folklore, a king has visited the waterfall and sculptured a horse to signify hidden treasure in the area.
Getting to Kiri Ella
From Colombo travel along Kollupitiya – Sri Jayawardenapura Road, Sri Jayawardenepura Mawatha, Kotte – Bope Road, Meepe – Ingiriya Road and Ratnapura – Horana – Panadura Highway passing Malabe, Watareka, Padukka, Handapangoda and Ingiriya to reach the Kiri Ella waterfall which is situated in the Ratnapura district.
