The Kandy Lake is an artificial lake built in 1807 by King Sri Wikrama Rajasingha. It is located in the heart of the Kandy city, next to the Temple of the Tooth Relic. The lake is also known as Bogambara Wewa (River) or Kiri Muhuda (Sea of Milk). The lake is protected and fishing is prohibited. Folklore says of a secret tunnel which is said to connect an island in the middle of the lake to the Royal Palace.
