Kahaththewela Ambalama is a small wayside rest or ‘ambalama’ which is situated along the Welimada Road in Bandarawela. This ancient ambalama is located alongside a Buddhist temple situated at the Kahaththewela junction. The ambalama was almost completely destroyed due to the expansion of the temple with only parts of its walls remaining. However, it was completely restored to the present building in 2013.

Getting to Kahaththewela Ambalama

From Ella travel along the Wellawaya-Ella-Kumbalwela Highway and the Bandarawela – Badulla Road passing Kumbalwela junction. At the roundabout turn to Welimada Road and travel approximately 1.6 km along this road to reach the Kahaththewela Ambalama in Bandarawela.
