Handapan Ella Falls is situated in Rakwana in the Ratnapura district. It stands at a height 23 m and springs from the Handapan Ella Valley, which is 1230 m high. It is the starting point of the Rakwana River which is located near the valley. According to folklore, the treasure trove of chieftan of the Kandyan kingdom, Ehelepola Nilame, is hidden in this waterfall.

From Belihuloya travel along the Colombo – Batticaloa Highway, Kahawatta Opanayake Road, Galle – Deniyaya – Madampe Highway and Kalawana – Depedene – Rakwana Road passing Aluthnuwara, Balangoda, Kahawatta and Madampe up to Rakwana to reach the Handapan Ella Falls which is situated in Rakwana in the Ratnapura district.
