Distance from Ella – 25.8 km (37 minutes)

Ellewala Waterfall is situated in the Monaragala district. It is 4 – 5 meters high and is accessible via the Ella – Wellawaya Road. Ellewala Waterfall is located hidden inside the jungle approximately 5 km from the Wellawaya town. The natural pool at the base of the waterfall is the ideal location to enjoy a bath.

Getting to Ellewala Waterfall

From Ella travel about 20 km along the Ella – Wellawaya Road until you reach the Rathmal Vehera Ancient Temple. Take the road opposite to the temple which will lead to the Ellelwala Waterfall.

The final few kilo meters trek to the waterfall is said be rough and not suitable for a vehicle with low ground clearance. You may need a 4×4 vehicle to go through this trek or a three wheeler. You will have to walk a few hundred meters in to the jungle to reach the Ellewala Waterfall.
