The rock has been names after the first Prime Minister of the country, Hon. D.S. Senanayake as it is believed to resemble his face. The rock can be seen when going to Madulsima. It is surrounded by a mountain range and tea estate.

From Ella travel along the Ella – Passara Road and the Passara – Madulsima – Metigahatenna Road passing Balleketuwa, Bibilegama, Passara and Madulsima up to Metigahatenna to reach the D.S. Rock which is situated along the Passara – Madulsima – Metigahatenna Road in Metigahatenna.
