The Community Tsunami Education Centre & Museum is situated on the Galle Road in Hikkaduwa. It is a centre mainly focused on educating the local community about Tsunami. The museum has images of the horrific tragedy which took place in the Indian Ocean on Boxing Day in year 2004. The centre provides information on how a Tsunami occurs, how it is measured and what warning systems can do to minimize the effect of a Tsunami in the case it occurs. One can take an emotional journey back in time when the Tsunami occurred and claimed over 30,000 lives of Sri Lankans and billions of rupees of property damage. The museum is the continuation of the efforts of Third Wave Volunteers lead by Dr. Alison Thompson who is the author of “The Third Wave” which is a volunteer story and the director of the film “Third Wave”.
