Nallur Kandaswamy Temple, also known as Nallur Kovil, is one of the most significant Hindu temples situated in northern Sri Lanka.

Nallur Kandaswamy Temple, also known as Nallur Kovil, is one of the most significant Hindu temples situated in northern Sri Lanka. Its deity is Lord Shiva also known as Katharagama Deviyo. The original temple was built in 948 AD at the same site by a Minister to the king of Kotte. The present temple was rebuilt during the Dutch colonial era in 1734 AD by ‘Don Juan’ Ragunatha Maapaana Mudaliyar. It is a socially important religious institution for Sri Lankan Tamils and many religious festivities are conducted in this temple annually.
